The naming of a school is an important step in the process when a new construction project is announced.
Lethbridge School Division has been fortunate to open a number of new schools in the last number of years, including Coalbanks Elementary School, Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School and Dr. Robert Plaxton Elementary School.
Before each school is officially opened, members of the public have an opportunity to submit their suggestions for names for the new school. When submitting your name, please include any relevant reference documents, along with a detailed reason for the name.
Refer to the School Naming Criteria above to ensure your suggestion is eligible for consideration.
A School Naming Committee will be formed to review the suggested names. In order for the committee to do its work, public participation in the process is needed. The committee will narrow down the suggestions received and submit a list of possible names to the Board of Trustees. The Board will then make a decision on the new name for the K-5 school by the end of June.
Please submit your completed form to Garrett Simmons at garrett.simmons@lethsd.ab.ca. The submission deadline is Feb. 15, 2024. Forms can also be dropped off at the Lethbridge School Division Education Centre at 433-15 St. S.
